Hello, my name is Rick Herb, owner and craftsman at 316 Leather Goods. I learned leathercrafting from my father and others growing up. I didn't really do anything with it most of my adult life. I developed a career in technology having served in the U.S. Air Force and private industry.
In the mid 2010's, I discovered that my father's leather tools were being stored in my brother's garage. When none of my siblings were interested in pursuing leathercrafting, I acquired those tools and took up the hobby again. I practiced tooling designs to relearn those skills and began making a variety of leather projects for family and friends (mostly as gifts). I would now like to offer my services to everyone.
I started 316 Leather Goods in 2026 to help offer these services to the public. The number 316 represents the area code of south-central Kansas where I live and work. When I was making that variety of projects for friends and family, I found that I had to purchase many different types of leather and tools based on the project. As I begin the 316 Leather Goods chapter, I find that I need to narrow down the types of orders I take. In doing so, I can really utilize the tools and materials I have on-hand and focus on making the best product possible. My shop is currently optimized for strap goods such as belts, cuffs (bracelets), guitar straps and rifle slings. I currently do not keep an inventory on hand and take custom orders. As a result, please expect a 1 - 2 week turn around.
